Studio Baboo® ~ Classes

We have a continually changing schedule of classes offering everything from basic bead stringing to off loom stitches to wire work. We also host several special workshop events throughout the year - Jeannette Cook, Maggie Meister, Fabulous Flowers and more! If you have any questions about the skill level required for any of the classes, please call us.

If the class you wish to take is full, please ask to be put on the waiting list. Or, if you are interested in taking a class that does not fit your schedule, please let us know so we can determine if there is sufficient interest to schedule the class again.

Class Registration Information

Register for workshops in person at the store or by telephone with a credit card. To Register by Phone Call: 434-244–2905. Registration will be accepted on a first come basis. Payment in full is required at the time of registration. Advance registration is strongly recommended - your space in the workshop is not secure until we receive payment. Materials and tools are not included in the class fee unless noted. Class fees are not refundable unless Studio Baboo cancels the class.

A supply list will be mailed to you upon receipt of your registration. Please read it carefully as you may be required to do some advance preparation before coming to class. ALL REQUIRED MATERIALS AND TOOLS ARE AVAILABLE IN THE STORE AND OUR STAFF WILL GLADLY HELP YOU WITH YOUR SELECTIONS. Please purchase your materials ahead of time or arrive early to shop for your materials as no class time is allotted for purchasing materials. The store is open to students one-half hour before early morning classes begin. Samples of the class projects are on display in the store and we encourage you to stop by and see them.

Classes will begin promptly – please be courteous and arrive on time. Unless otherwise specified, classes are suitable for adults and children over the age of 14. No babies, children or unregistered guests are permitted in the workshop.

If the class you wish to take is full, please ask to be put on the waiting list. Or, if you are interested in taking a class that does not fit your schedule, please let us know so we can determine if there is sufficient interest to schedule the class again.

A NOTE ABOUT CELL PHONES: Please turn off your cell phone while in the classroom. It is disruptive and discourteous to the instructor and students when your phone rings during class. If it is imperative that you stay in touch with family or office while in class, please put your phone on silent mode and let your voice mail take a message. If you must return a call, LEAVE THE CLASSROOM and step outside to return the call. If you miss important instructions while you are absent from the classroom, the instructor cannot be expected to "catch you up" when you return to class.

Materials are not included in the class fee unless otherwise noted. Advance registration and payment are required to hold your place in class. Upon registration a materials list will be sent to you. 	GARDEN PATHWAY BRACELET WEDNESDAY, JUNE 2nd Instructor: Louise Smith Level: Intermediate Time: 10:00-3:00 Fee: $35.00 Begin with a bracelet base of herringbone stitch and then learn to encrust that base with a variety of embellishments. You can make your bracelet into a spring garden or choose a monochromatic colorway for an elegant high-fashion look. Students should have experience with one or more off loom stitches.
	MEDICI ROSETTE BRACELET SATURDAY, JUNE 5th Instructor: Louise Smith Level: All Time: 10:00-2:00 Fee: $30.00 Connect small jeweled medallions to create an elegant bangle-style bracelet fit for a renaissance queen! Despite its complex look, it's quite simple to make. Students should be comfortable using a needle and thread or have basic sewing skills.
	SPARKLING CRYSTAL HEART WEDNESDAY, JUNE 9th Instructor: Jackie Monticup Level: All Time: 10:00-2:00 Fee: $30.00 Create a stunning crystal heart of Swarovski crystal beads while learning a Japanese two-needle weave technique. Suspend yours from a delicate silver chain or beaded necklace. Make it in any color of the rainbow! Students should have basic bead stringing experience.
	EARRING BASICS THURSDAY, JUNE 10th Instructor: Studio Baboo Staff Level: Beginner Time: 5:30-7:00 Fee: $25.00 Materials Included Expand your jewelry wardrobe with earrings. Students will learn how to make consistently sized wire loops and combine bead components. Students will make three pair of earrings in class.
	KILIM BEADS SATURDAY, JUNE 12th Special Guest Instructor: Maggie Meister Level: Intermediate to advanced Time: 10:00-4:00 Fee: $75 These are beads made with a peyote frame with brick stitch inserts - inspired by Turkish Kilims. The beads can be used as a pendant, earrings, etc. A working knowledge of Peyote Stitch and Brick Stitch is essential.
	TEKLA'S CUFF SUNDAY, JUNE 13th Special Guest Instructor: Maggie Meister Level: Intermediate to advanced Time: 10:00-4:00 Fee: $75 This cuff was inspired by the jewelry worn by royalty in the Byzantine Era and named for the Empress Tekla. Jewelry from this era is adorned with precious and semi-precious jewels and is large and elaborate. These pieces were made not only to show the importance of the royal person but also to draw attention away from the human body. Students will cover a metal armature with herringbone and peyote stitch and embellish it with fresh water pearls or semi precious stones. Participants will learn to combine these stitches, how to cover a form, bezel beads and stones. PREREQUISITE: Students must know Peyote and Herringbone Stitches. Some pre class preparation is required
	ENCRUSTED BEAD BOOOKMARK THURSDAY JUNE 17th Instructor: Kerrie Pierce Level: Beginner Time: 5:30-7:30 Fee: $30.00 Learn how to completely “encrust” a wooden base bead with a luscious mix of beads wile making a pretty and useful bookmark. Get tips on making your own bead mix and ideas for using the beaded beads in other projects. Prerequisite: Students should have basic sewing skills or be comfortable using a needle and thread
	PATERA SATURDAY, JUNE 19th Instructor: Kerrie Pierce & Terri Gable Level: Beginner Time: 10:00-2:00 Fee: $30.00 Create personalized keepsake pendants, bracelets, earrings, pendants and much more with this fun, trendy, multi-media technique. Learn to prepare images to fit into a bezel frame, adhere and protect the images with Diamond Glaze, a dimensional adhesive that dries to a clear glass-like finish. Students will assemble their finished pieces into a necklace or bracelet.
	BEAD STRINGING BASICS SATURDAY, JUNE 19th Instructor: Studio Baboo Staff Level: Beginner Time: 3:00-4:30 Fee: $25.00 Materials Included Learn the basics of creating necklaces and bracelets using the most popular stringing technique. We will discuss how to choose the correct type of stringing material as well as the use of a variety of different findings. Students will complete a necklace in class. Note: The Crystal Bracelet classes are a great alternative to the Basic Bead Stringing Class.

We will discuss how to choose the correct type of stringing material as well as the use of a variety of different findings. Students will complete a necklace in class. 	FRENCH BEADED FLOWER - ANEMONE SATURDAY, JUNE 26th Instructor: Kerrie Pierce Level: Intermediate Time: 10:00-4:00 Fee: $50.00 Medium-sized flowers, available in red, pink, white, blue or purple, anemones are now the hot choice of top floral designers. Level: Intermediate. Techniques you should know: round basic, pointed basic and lacing. Techniques you will learn: Scalloped edges, beehive centers and stamens. Optional shading may be incorporated to achieve a more exciting look.

	CASCADING BRACELET SATURDAY, JULY 3rd Instructor: Terri Gable Level: Beginner Time: 10:00-2:00 Fee: $25.00 Use a mixture of various sizes and shapes of seed beads to create a wonderfully textured five-strand bracelet. Learn ladder stitch, brick stitch and a clever stringing method while creating this delicate treasure. Students should be comfortable using a needle and thread or have basic sewing skills.
	TROPICAL VACATION NECKLACE wEDNESDAY, JULY 7th Instructor: Terri Gable Level: Beginner Time: 10:00-2:00 Fee: $30.00 Choose bright primary colors for a truly tropical flair or softly colored gemstones for an earthy look. Either way, this will be your go-to, go-with-everything vacation necklace. It’s so easy, you can make one while you are traveling!

	PINCH AND TWIST SATURDAY, JULY 10th Instructor: Terri Gable Level: Beginner Time: 10:00-2:00 Fee: $30.00 Learn to create an intricate multi-stand necklace, how to finish multiple stands of wire and neatly attach a clasp. This frothy concoction of wire and beads has a high-fashion designer look. It's fun, it's easy and it's lovely to look at and wear!
	CHAIN MAILLE BRACELET SATURDAY, JULY 17th Instructor: Meghan Bryant Level: Beginner Time: 10:00-12:00 Fee: $30.00 Using ready-made jump rings, students will learn the 4 in 1 chain maille pattern. This simple, but not simple looking bracelet, is also excellent as a base to add beads to later. As a bonus, the instructor will also demonstrate how tyou can make your own jump rings. Students may not complete their project in class but will be able to confidently finish the bracelet at home.
	CAPTIVATING CURVE BRACELET WEDNESDAY , JULY 21st Instructor: Louise Smith Level: Beginner Time: 10:00-1:00 Fee: $30.00 Small loops of seed beads curve gracefully around larger beads in this charming bracelet. This is a good way to add interest to a strand of beads without adding extra width. This technique would also make a lovely necklace. Students should be comfortable using a needle and thread or have basic sewing skills.
	EARRING BASICS THURSDAY, JULY 22nd Instructor: Studio Baboo Staff Level: Beginner Time: 5:30-7:00 Fee: $25.00 Materials Included Expand your jewelry wardrobe with earrings. 	FLORAL FANTASY NECKLACE SATURDAY, JULY 24th Instructor: Barbara Tilley Level: Beginner Time: 10:00-2:00 Fee: $30.00 Combine delicate flower and leaf beads, sprinkle in glimmering bits of seed beads and twist them together with colorful wire to make this delightfully airy “Spring Flower” necklace. After admiring an expensive designer necklace, Barbara created her own affordable-to-make version of this springtime beauty.
	BEAUTIFUL BELLS NECKLACE SATURDAY, JULY 31st Instructor: Louise Smith Level: Beginner Time: 10:00-2:00 Fee: $30.00 Students will learn the basics of two simpe stitches, tubular square stitch and brick stitch, but the result is anything but basic. Students will use these techniques to make beautiful three-dimensional bell-shaped flowers and realistic leaves which will be incorporated into a unique and graceful necklace. Students should be comfortable using a needle and thread or have basic sewing skills.

	STEPPING STONES BRACELET SATURDAY, AUGUST 7th Instructor: Louise Smith Level: Beginner Time: 10:00-2:00 Fee: $30.00 This bracelet reminds us of little offset stepping stones meandering through the garden, each surrounded by colorful moss. Learn to capture your own little stones in a nest of seed beads and create a clever hidden closure. Students should be comfortable using a needle and thread or have basic sewing skills.
	BEAD STRINGING BASICS THURSDAY, AUGUST 12th Instructor: Studio Baboo Staff Level: Beginner Time: 5:30-7:00 Fee: $25.00 Materials Included Learn the basics of creating necklaces and bracelets using the most popular stringing technique. 	GARDEN GATE CUFF SATURDAY, AUGUST 14th Instructor: Barbara Tilley Level: Experienced Beginner Time: 10:00-1:00 Fee: $30.00 (Fee includes copper wire) Like a gracious iron gate containing a southern flower garden, this beautiful cuff bracelet makes it easy to showcase some of your treasured accent beads. Learn some basic wire techniques while you make this fun and easy bracelet. Students must be adept at manipulating wire into consistently sized, round loops without assistance (as for making earrings).
	WIRE NAMES SATURDAY, AUGUST 14th Instructor: Barbara Tilley Level: Experienced Beginner Time: 2:00-4:00 Fee: $30.00 (Fee includes copper wire) Learn to write your name in wire! Make a necklace, brooch or ring. In the first part of this class, the instructor will show you the basics of wire penmanship. Then, under the guidance of the instructor, you will practice, practice, practice (just like learning to write in grade school) . The results are so much fun! Students must be adept at manipulating wire into consistently sized, round loops without assistance (as for making earrings).
	VIKING KNIT BRACELET SATURDAY, AUGUST 21st Instructor: Meghan Bryant Level: All Time: 10:00-3:00 Fee: $35.00 The ancient tradition of Viking knit dates back to the 8th century A.D. Known in Scandinavia as nailbinding, this technique is not knitting as we know it. Students will learn to work wire into interconnecting loops by hand, size the bracelet and finish it with cone ends.
	MINI SCALLOP BRACELET WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 25th Instructor: Louise Smith Level: All Time: 10:00-2:00 Fee: $30.00 Like the dainty crocheted edge on grandmother's handkerchief, learn to embellish a delicate right angle weave bracelet that joins seamlessly together. Lovely in any color combination. Students should be comfortable using a needle and thread.
	NIFTY KNOTTEDBRACELET SATURDAY, AUGUST 28th Instructor: Terri Gable Level: All Time: 10:00-2:00 Fee: $30.00 Make this fun, fringy bracelet using a simple macramé knot and a unique mixture of bead shapes and colors. This stylish one-of-a-kind, wearable art bracelet would command a high price in a boutique.

	WIRE WRAPPED RINGS SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 18th Instructor: Barbara Tilley Level: Intermediate Time: 10:00-3:00 Fee: $35.00 (Included copper wire) It only takes a few hours to make two rings! Master multiple techniques with two stylish rings. First, learn to make a traditionally styled Birthstone Ring with a snap setting. Then learn to weave wire into a Love Knot band with a modern edge, great for women or men. Students must have previous wire working experience which allows them to confidently manipulate wire without kinking, make consistently sized simple wire loops and wrapped wire loops OR Students must have taken Barbara's Cobra Bail Pendant class.
	PEA POD PENDANT SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 25th Instructor: Meghan Bryant Level: All Time: 10:00-12:00 Fee: $25.00 Learn to create a wire form and how to intricately wrap beads within the frame. You can use this versatile piece as a charming pendant, make two for a pair or earrings or combine multiple components for a bracelet.
	LEATHER MACRAME BRACELET SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 25th Instructor: Meghan Bryant Level: All Time: 1:00-3:00 Fee: $25.00 This bracelet puts a new twist on macrame you may already know. You can be earthy or trendy depending on your choice of beads. Either way, you will go home with a fun-to-wear bracelet.
	HAND KNOTTING BY APPOINTMENT ONLY Instructor: Terri Gable Level: All. Students should be comfortable using a needle and thread. Time: 1 ½ hours Fee: $65 (Includes book and materials kit) In a hands-on session you will learn the art of delicate knotting between beads as seen in fine jewelry. Learn from how to work with the correct tools and materials. You will work closely with the instructor to learn the correct techniques to achieve tight, well-placed knots. This is a techniques class - you will not finish your project in class.
	BEADS AND LUNCH EVERY TUESDAY Level: No skill level. Time: 11:00-2:00 Fee: NONE! Our classroom space is available every Tuesday for an “open studio” session. Bring a project, your own lunch or snacks and enjoy the company of other beaders. This is not a class but an opportunity to relax and have fun while you work on your bead projects away from the distractions of home and family. No need to sign up – no fee – come and go as your schedule permits Can't seem to focus on your projects at home? You are welcome to work at our “Make It – Take It” table. Weekdays and Thursday evenings are the best times to stop in if you need help and inspiration from our staff. But if Saturday is the only day that suits your schedule, well, that's fine, too.
